11+ exam preparation
Every child is different and, whilst I understand that every child has their own capabilities and will excel at different things, the 11+ exam exclusively measures academic attainment. Because of this, the exams are only accessible for children who are working at the top end of their classes. Even within this ability range, some children will need more support than others, even if only to build confidence.
Grammar school entrance examinations typically take place in the late September/ early October of Year 6 so that parents can make an informed decision when they complete their CAF in October. Entrance exams for other schools may be different so, where there are tuition places available, I will endeavour to be as flexible as possible regarding start and finish dates.
Year of entry into Year 7 2025 – no spaces available.
Year of entry into Year 7 2026 - 6 places available.
Year of entry into Year 7 2027 - waiting list places available (limited)
Year of entry into Year 7 2028 - waiting list places available
Option 1
Most parents choose option 1 as it gives adequate time to ensure that your child has a solid grounding across all of the examined subjects. These are small group sessions with a maximum of 4 children per group.
- Start: The October in which your child starts Year 5.
- End: The September in which your child starts Year 6.
- Frequency: A weekly one-hour lesson.
- Extra information: Option 1 includes at least three hours of homework per week, plus access to hundreds of learning resources and test papers through the student portal. Lessons can take place face to face.
Option 2
This is a good option for children who have potential but may be ‘stuck’ with their learning at primary school so may be nearer the middle of their class. It is a good way to develop confidence and we have the flexibility to increase the sessions to weekly in Year 5 depending on the availability of spaces. These are small group sessions with a maximum of 4 children per group.
- Start: The October in which your child starts Year 4.
- End: The September in which your child starts Year 6.
- Frequency: A fortnightly one-hour lesson.
- Extra information: Option 2 includes 2 hours of homework in the first year and 3 hours homework in the second year, plus access to hundreds of learning resources and test papers through the student portal. Lessons can take place face to face.
Option 3
This is suitable for children who are consistently at the top of their class and simply need to be familiarised with the test materials. These are designed to be group sessions with a maximum of 4 children in each group.
- Start: The July at the end of Year 5.
- End: The September in which your child starts Year 6
- Frequency: A weekly one and a half-hour lesson
- Extra information: Option 3 includes 5 hours homework per week, plus access to hundreds of learning resources and test papers through the student portal.
Please note that places for option 3 are extremely limited and only take place on Saturday afternoons. Please note that sessions will only run if a sufficient number of children express an interest.
Additional 11+ classes will also run throughout the year- see 11+ section for details.
