Welcome to your first 'words of the week' blog. This week, we are learning words with the bi-, tele- and trans- prefixes, that is, they have bi-, tele- or trans- attached to their root word to make a new word. For example, bi (more than one) and lingual (language) means 'more than one language.'
If you've forgotten about prefixes and how they alter words, take a look at this video: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8mxrwx/articles/z9hjwxs
...and this video takes it a little bit further with a quiz : https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqqsw6f/articles/z2gnm39
There are lots of ways to learn your words of the week, for example:
- group them according to their prefix. Write the root word in one colour, the prefix in a different colour
- use your words in sentences, give yourself a point every time you use one throughout the day
- play hangman against you parents
- create anagrams, where you mix the letters up and your parents have to unscramble them
- please DO PUT THEM IN YOUR WORD JOURNALS along with their definitions
This week's words are: biceps, bilingual, television, transfer, transatlantic, bisect, biplane, telepathy, transport, transplant, bicycle, telephone, telephoto, transparent, bifocals, telescope, transmit, translate
I hope you don't need to be telepathic and read my mind during your assessment :) Enjoy!
