Hello and welcome to 'multiples and factors.' You'll hear these words used a lot in class- sometimes together, sometimes apart. But what do they actually mean?
If you're asked to identify a factor, even the highest factor, or the highest common factor, you'll need to know that this is a number that multiplies into another number. For example, 3 and 5 are both factors of 15 because 3x5= 15.
You might be asked to identify multiples or common multiples. These are the answers to the times tables, so 2,4,6,8,10 etc. are all multiples of 2.
You need to get it straight in your head. A way I remember it is that 'factor' is a multiplication fact, like 3x4. And multiple is the answer.
