POETRY CHALLENGE! Beginning on Monday July the 8th 2024.

As you are aware, July is poetry month here at Sharp Tuition. We are learning lots of vocabulary associated with poetry, words like stanza, syllables, haiku and rhyming pattern. Everyone knows that the very best way to learn something is to be immersed in it... and so, in July, we are going to become immersed in poetry. We will do this by learning a poem by heart AND performing it to our peers!

This is no mean task: it is one thing to learn a poem by heart but it takes lion-like courage to perform it OUT LOUD! None the less, poems are meant to be read OUT LOUD. And I happen to teach many incredibly courageous children. So my expectations are high, very high indeed.

For inspiration, I have written you a little ditty:

There once was a teacher called Kelly,

Who ate custard out of her welly,

She said it was yummy,

Felt good in her tummy,

And ate it while watching the telly.

A limerick masterpiece I'm sure you will agree!

You are a lucky bunch as I have given you actual, proper poems by real-life famous poets (rather than my rather feeble effort above). Your challenge is to learn your poem by heart and rehearse it out loud. I would like you to be able to recite your poem by heart in front of your group in your lesson in the week beginning 22nd July. Instead of our usual sweet cones, the winners of this challenge will recieve a book of poetry!

I can't wait to hear your recitals!
