Preparing for the 11+? Further adventures in classic texts.

Back by popular demand is my ‘recommended reads for 11+ preparation’ blog. Here’s another long- but certainly not exhaustive- list of classic texts that are wonderful for vocabulary development and, actually, are simply wonderful texts. I hope that you enjoy them all- links for many can be found in the ‘recommended reads’ section of the website. I hope that you endorse my selection (remember the ‘Word of the Day’ everyone 😊).

H. G. Wells- The War of the Worlds

L. M. Montgomery- Anne of Green Gables

William Shakespeare- A Midsummer Night's Dream

Arthur Conan Doyle- Sherlock Holmes

Jacob Grimm- The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales

Finally, any collection of classic poems, which should hopefully include: The Way through the Woods – Rudyard Kipling, A Smuggler’s Song – Rudyard Kipling , The Pied Piper of Hamlin – Robert Browning , The Listeners –  Walter de la Mare, The Highwayman – Alfred Noyes, You are Old Father William – Lewis Carroll, The Scarecrow – Walter de la Mare, Something Told the Wild Geese  – Rachel Field, Night Mail – W.H. Auden, From a Railway Carriage – Robert Louis Stevenson

Happy reading everyone.
