Visual Literacy: Taking Flight

The latest ‘Literacy Shed’ video centres around a little boy who wants to spend the day with his Dad however he, unfortunately, needs to work. I’m sure we’re all feeling the pain of trying to be super parents, teachers and grown-up people who have real-life responsibilities at the moment so this video seems pretty timely. Luckily for the boy in the video, he goes to spend time with his Grandpa and it turns out to be one of the wildest play-dates of his young life. Who knows what today might bring for you and your child… perhaps alien zapping might be on your radar too!

This video will serve as a springboard for some fantastic creative writing. Here are some of my ideas:

·       Creating a character description of the grandad

·       Write a short story entitled, ‘The Unexpected Day’

·       Create a video diary in character- look at other video diaries for inspiration (astronaut Tim Peake has done some rather good ones from the Space Station)

·       Draw a map of the route taken by the wagon
