Converting measures and problem solving
Converting measures isn’t quite as simple as it seems. In Year 6, children traditionally convert measurements from cm- m or mm to cm. The 11+ requires children to be able to convert from very small units such as mm to very large measures such as km. When children are given time to think this through, they are well able to convert in this way however, they are not given much time in their exam so it is worth looking at a few examples before the test to get a feel for the questions. They also need to be comfortable with imperial measures. Below is a selection of fantastic web-based resources that will help develop measures skills:
