Revising co-ordinates

Summer challenge week 4: co-ordinates

Children are taught co-ordinates in early Key Stage 1, when they are simply asked to plot points then join them to make shapes. In Year 5, this learning should be extended to plotting co-ordinates in 4 quadrants by applying knowledge of negative numbers. The 11+ takes this one step further and often children are asked to transform (reflect, rotate, translate) a shape in one of the quadrants or identify missing co-ordinates using un-labelled axes. We have looked at all styles of questions but it’s worth revising because 11+ co-ordinates employs so many other skills- problem solving, shape knowledge and the ability to transform shapes. Plus, it’s actually quite a lot of fun 😊
