It is vital that children have a solid grasp and rapid recall of their times tables because they provide the building blocks for so many other mathematical skills (finding area for example). Often, children have been 'doing' times tables for so long that they actually know them 'off by heart,' however, they lack the confidence to say their answer out-loud or simply go with the first - usually correct- answer that comes to mind. The following games are useful for building up speed and confidence with times tables- they are also rather a lot of fun :)

Do test your child at speed- throw tables at them in the car, at the dinner table, when you're watching telly. Once a child realises that, actually, they DO know them, life suddenly becomes a whole lot easier!
