Imperial measures- length. Week beginning 8.07.24

This week's learn by heart is imperial measures (length). Although our children are well versed in using the metric system, I must confess that I still measure my runs in miles and like height to be described in feet and inches. The children need to have an idea about the following conversions:

12 inches= 1 foot

1 inch= 2.5cm

1 foot = 30 cm

1 mile= 1.5km

'An idea' is just that. If your child is capable of learning (and retaining) this information- great. As long as they have a general idea of what imperial measures are and have some experience with converting, this should be sufficient. The 11+ test is a fickle beast- sometimes questions are given with the basic conversion written clearly within the question, sometimes they are not.
