This week, the children will be bringing home a mighty word list of common homophones. Homophones are very often hidden within the spelling section of the 11+ English test and so knowing the tricky words off by heart provides our children with a major advantage. The children have 4 weeks in which to learn all of these spellings and will be tested during the week beginning February 28th.
Top tips for learning tricky spellings:
1)Add each spelling and- most importantly- its meaning to your word journal
2) Make a poster of each set of words, with pictures showing their different definitions- stick these posters everywhere
3) Learn a few at a time. I won't be giving 'word journal' words for the next 4 weeks- break them into sections and learn them in small chunks
4) Rehearse everywhere- on the loo, in the car, whilst walking to school etc.
This is your challenge. The 3 children who score highest on their tests will recieve a prize.
