Reading from unlabelled scales. Week beginning 13.11.23

You might not know this, but you read from unlabelled scales all of the time- when you tell the time on a clock without numbers (or with Roman Numerals as numbers), or when you quickly assert that 'it's warm' without reading the numbers on a thermometer. The key to reading from unlabelled scales is to choose your answer then CHECK that it works... if you think that a thermometer, for example, is going up in increments/ jumps of 2 degrees, check that it works and lands you on the next written number when you count on. The following games should refine your skills and help you to revise checking and double checking your answers:

https://www.transum.org/Maths/Activity/Reading_Scales/Default.asp?Level=1- work through the levels, see how many points you can get

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/mostlyPostie/index.html- Try all the levels, weighing letters and packages

https://ictgames.com/mobilePage/capacity/index.html- Launch the rocket using ml and l

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=Temperaturev2- Read both horizontal AND vertical thermometers

Enjoy these games, do them as often as you can to improve your mad skills.
